Practical arrangements for September hearings

Date 22nd June 2021

Lord Brodie set out some arrangements for the September hearings at a procedural hearing this morning.

A fully equipped hearing suite within our new offices in central Edinburgh is currently being prepared. It will allow flexibility in how we operate and broadcast our hearings, while minimising the risks from Covid-19.

The Inquiry’s preference is for all witnesses to appear in person. However, recognising the uncertainty around ongoing government restrictions, there will be scope to provide evidence remotely in exceptional circumstances. This will be discussed with witnesses ahead of their scheduled appearance.

The hearing suite will be limited to necessary and invited participants only, to mitigate risks. This will include Lord Brodie, Counsel, witnesses and their legal representatives. Witnesses will be able to consult privately with their solicitors in Covid safe rooms if they need to do so.

The hearings are expected to run for five weeks from 20 September. For anyone wishing to follow our proceedings remotely, you can do so via our YouTube channel.
